What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

One of Sutherland's last recordings (1984), her remake of Norma is pretty good. She sounds frayed around the edges, but still had the goods. Bonynge always was a good Bellini conductor, but here he surpasses himself. Pav and Caballé are brilliant. Overall, much better than the cover suggests.

Cheers,

EJ

John.

My view of Rankin as an artist was shifted too. He invariably knew exactly which shot captured the whole subject and their feelings about their situation.  It was as you say fabulous TV. G

If anyone spots when this is available on BBC iPlayer can they post please?

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the prod on this album. It's spinning now and I'd forgotten how good it is.

I only recently discovered and acquired another of Winwood's solo albums, 'Roll with It'. Another gem.

Best wishes from a very hot and sultry UK.

John.

It is a very good album underplayed here as well.

best regards

Jeff A
