What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Doug,

How is it in comparison to Sitkovetsky's earlier (1995) string arrangement?:

Haim, the NES Chamber Orchestra version has some similarities to the String Trio version but on the whole the two are distinctly different.  The former being quite full bodied and smoother sounding and the latter being lean and focused.  I like the String Trio version but occasionally I found it hard to find balance with the violin tending to be so shrill (to my ear) and overbearing next to the much more beautiful rendering from a viola or cello (my opinion only).  I like going in to foreign territory with music like this by I always long to come home to the keyboard.  Currently Tureck has me transfixed but I admittedly have unique and eclectic tastes.  If the general listening audience were polled they would probably equate Tureck to watching paint dry.  Now that I'm currently in this mode, I find the string versions quite quick, in comparison, with me secretly wishing them to slow down.

Double 180gm  'splatted red & grey'  Vinyl.

Ordered this fantastic album on the heads up from Denis A. This is a fantastic album, but not only the music, the artwork - paintings by Salustiano are also sublime. This is the most beautiful piece of Vinyl Art I have bought in years.

Bach on cello and piano. Wonder why Hyperion didn't produce this disc, but it sounds fine.

Cheers,
