What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

How do!

Soundtracks always seem to be well recorded, and this one is no exception. A complete contrast to my usual Saturday tipple, suffice to say it's very good....eh, back to my eh...tipple!

So many good guys here; Bruno Cocset (cello), Rolf Lislevand (lute), Jordi Savall, Le Concert Des Nations..

Aside of the exquisite music we get an exemplary booklet covering some historical events of the period as well as personal information of Boccherini's life.

EJ,

I see that you are getting more into Hamelin lately. We went to see him two months ago but for some reason the program did not contain any music of his numerous recordings I own (Medtner, Scriabin, Chopin, Haydn, Godowsky, Liszt, Brahms). It consisted of mainly French composers (Faure, Ravel and Debussy), Rachmaninov and Berg. Never the less, the performance was outstanding and we had a great time.

As you say, well recorded and a " very obvious" soundtrack. I quiet like that one.

Have you tried the first in this series - The Dark Knight?

Probably some of the most brutal music you will subject the system to - rather a challenge.

It really will warm up the amp quickly :-)

Haim,

Got to know him via his recording of that yardstick of pianists, the Liszt b minor sonata. It's a very fine recording, one of my favorite renditions. Following up on him, I like that he avoids the treaded paths and goes after some of the more obscure gold nuggets.

Cheers,

EJ

J.J. CaleAudio CD

I seen Mr. Cale  at the Kingfish Lounge - Baton Rouge, La (1978). I will never forget how everyone was there to hear "Cocaine" but it was "Magnolia"  that blew everyone away.
