What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Revisiting a bit of Billy Joel.  52nd Street was one of my 1st LP's and, I believe, the first recording to be made a CD.

Nicely engineered this first CD pressing is too.

First spin: Prokofiev's second violin concerto by Janine Jansen and Vladimir Jurowski. The disc also includes the sonata for two violins, and the first violin sonata.

Cheers,

The string quartets by Sibelius and Grieg are among the best in the genre, and are well suited to the Emersons' brilliantly polished playing.

Cheers,

This CD has been a favourite on this Forum, long before I was a member. But if you have never heard it please, please do yourself a favour and try to get hold of a copy you will not be disappointed. However it is getting expensive

+1 Graham, a fantastic CD. I'm glad I bought a 2nd copy before it joined the collectable club. Gavin Clark is such an expressive singer, one of my Fav's. I'm really glad I saw Gavin sing @ the last gig of Clayhill a couple of years ago. Funny enough, Ted Barnes & Ali Friend have played & produced (Ted) with Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo, a lovely band to see.

BTW, thanks for the Cairo Gang tip earlier today.

Mercury SR61024.  The original with twelve songs.  Nice sound quality for it's day, and a nice heavy piece of nearly 50 year old vinyl.

I didn't give this enough consideration when it came out this year.
It is really excellent album and an excellent sounding album no compression or "Pro Tools sound"

Philip Glass even makes an appearance

Glad you like the Cairo Gang Dennis it has not been of the turntable since the start of the year. I think I owe you a big thank you for the original post of Sunhouse sometime early last year. When if I remember you indeed did say you had two copy's just in case you lost one!! The way it's going you might be able to sell one and go on holiday  Take care,

Graham.

On vinyl.  With Joe Walsh, Don Henley, Glen Frey, and Jackson Browne contributing you might expect this to sound like the Eagles.  It doesn't.  Very much Warren's sound.
