What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

This album 'The Late Great Fitzcarraldos' was waiting for me when I got in from work, After playing both sides it sounds very interesting. My copy is on vinyl and the SQ is very good.

Currently available from Amazon for £8.58 + free postage.

Not a big admirer of Mahler, but if there is one series of recordings to change my mind, it's this one. The fifth in particular is really good and has converted a number of friends to classical music. I've attended a number of the performances that preceded these (studio) recordings, and they were awe-inspiring. Bonus: the best orchestral recordings I have ever heard.

Cheers,

EJ

One of the few 'remasters' which surpass the original pressing.  Fine harmonies delicately presented. Each voice clearly intelligible in the mix. G
