What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

As it was, as it is, as it should ever be.

Hi Kevin,

Is it as good as the MFSL 45rpm version of this classic?

Did I see you at the premiere tonight?

Much better. The MFSL has a rather irritating treble roll-off at 17kHz. The Classic 45rpm version has awesome bass which even DBLs would have difficulty in doing justice to. The Classic also has a tangible presence and image which makes it seem as if they boys are in the room with you.

Soundtrack of my youth. Well, part of it.

Not the album sleeve picture, but for those who haven't seen the video this is 'The Raven That Refused to Sing' by Steven Wilson. I feel almost guilty that it has taken me so long to discover this album. It is just SO good. I have been raving about the raven to anyone who'll listen. It kind of takes me back to when I was at school and the excitement of hearing something completely fresh and new. The guitar playing from Guthrie Govan is spot on, clever but not too showy, remaining stylish and musical. I've had this for a couple of weeks now and have just started exploring other works by SW and Porcupine Tree, but the Raven is an absolute gem. I love it!

This is amazing psychedelic stoner/progressive rock band with modern twist from Stockholm. I believe they are worth investigating. Band is Switch Opens, the spelling might be tricky to see from that picture.

Sometimes it hits me just how ridiculously good The Beatles are.

On the light side before Beddy-bye.

I have to say I am dissappointed! This is the sort of precise research I expect from the SH forum! Can we just stick with the screams and heightened adoration next time! I mean, at this rate we might even be worrying about whether it was a first pressing, blue triangle or had a raven on the front!! Jeech! If my seven year old finds out it is on vinyl then my life will be hell! She will but it for me for christmas on purpose! And she might even want to use the lp12/stageline/akiro/flaime to play it on.

Guys, keep posting the stoner/doom metal. Samsara is great.

I'd like to share this gem I found some 20 years ago in the used section. It's Punk/Thrash/Hardcore/Doom rolled into one sick album. Very raw. You can find the whole album on youtube.
