What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Kuma,

Thanks for pointing out this recording. It has been over three years since I listened to it and I am enjoying it now, going real well with our 94 degrees day.

In the car today.

Haim, Kuma et al. I will have to check out Charlie Haden one of these days. There seems to be a lot of fans on the forum. My condolences on the heat Haim. We have been having really nice weather the last few weeks. What a difference a few hundred miles can make.

Matt,

I am from the Middle East (Israel) so heat never bothers me. It is the other way around, any cloud formation in the sky makes me shiver. First thing I did returning from work today was run a 5k. Just wanted to see what kind of a wake I would be leaving behind..

As for Haden, I would recommend a small ensemble where his tole is more prominent. If you are into old hymes, that is a great one:

Hank Jones was a very talented pianist who passed away not long ago.

OMG    Thank you   I bought this last week based on the praise on this board.  No disrespect   Different strokes....But I also could not get past the second track.   Worst of all was the drummer.  But the whole thing sounds like a bunch of 10th graders chaneling King Crimson

Thanks for the recommendation Haim. I will definitely check it out. I bet you love the midwestern winters you get in Illinois.

Bought today off the wall of Hippie Shake Records, first play

and as said on the other forum: "It's Blackfield so what's not to like."

Blackfield’s fourth studio album is this time entirely written and produced by Aviv Geffen, but continues with the band’s trademark sound of melancholic pop songs. Steven Wilson is still present as guest vocalist (notably on the song “Jupiter") and guitar player, and the album also includes guest vocal performances from Brett Anderson (Suede), Jonathan Donahue (Mercury Rev) and Vincent Cavanagh (Anathema).
