What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

How's the sound of Lang Lang vinyl compared to Wunder's?

I am hoping his 300 will be released in vinyl but doesn't look like it.

Kuma, the Wunder vinyl is exceptional (mine is virtually silent) and has the edge over the Lang Lang in that department I think but the Sony recording seems to be further back allowing for more dynamic range.  I like the bass more on the Lang Lang, for example, and the fullness of the piano.  While the DGG has a more focused sound I like the Sony recording too as it sounds more like a real piano in a real setting.  Both are nice recordings for me, actually, just different.

Lisa Hannigan - Passenger

Followed by Kate Walsh - Peppermint Radio.  Reminded of this album from an earlier post.

Thanks Florestan.

DG Wunder vinyl was actaully a nice surprise for the price they put out on the market. They rae better than some audiophile reissues. For sure beating the HQ pressing by a large margin and the cost a lot less!

I'd like to know who pressed it.

I will get a Lang Lang vinyl when it comes out. (US release is Feb. 5 )

I downloaded my first HD music--"The Violins of Cremona" (a tribute to Fritz Kreisler) in 24/96 and Beethoven's Third, Fourth, and Fifth Piano Concertos in 24/192--both from Linn.  They are both spectacular examples of HiFi and magnificent performances in my opinion.

Best regards,

Russ

On vinyl from 1982.  Warm and soothing from the Belfast Cowboy.

On vinyl from 1979; after Pete Ham's suicide but before Tom Evans'.  A sad and troubled history for Badfinger.  'Airwaves' is worth a listen, although their best work was early in their career.

Albums of "covers" tunes can often be a no-no for me, the "new" arrangements only reminding me how much better the originals were.  But along the lines of the Kate Walsh success, the Marc Cohn is one of the best I have owned.

Double vinyl

The album cover was created by Carl Glover. At the no-man gig in Leamington Spa he explained to me that the photographs were shot @ a snowy Blackheath, South East London. A torch was waved about to create the effect, using a slow exposure I guess. Something for the photographers here to try if you like to experiment.

The bongo song. Heard it on the radio a week ago and ordered the CD.
Just ripped it and playing it with volume cranked up. OMG

The mark of a good singer is when he records songs outside of his 'normal' material. This collaboration with Robert Fripp led to a 2.5 year delay in release by RCA, which was shameful.

Robert quoted - "Hall had the best pipes of anyone I've ever worked with, at any time. He moved effortlessly through the idioms he knew, and then out the other side to those he didn't. He improviswd as easily as any instrumentalist I've ever met, and better than most."

Alanis Morissette "Havoc and Bright Lights"

I am an AM fan and find this newest release a return to the sound/style of Jagged Little Pill.  Good songs, acquired-taste vocal style and angst - what else do you need.  Turn it up loud and watch the neighbors have an emotional breakdown.

Just downloaded from HDTracks in 24/176.4.  Why?  Well, great sound and nice to hear the original "Just take 5".  A treat after having worked at home today (due to snow).  Very relaxing start to the evening.....
