What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

 playing sides 13 & 14 from Philips 10 x LP box-set : )

Fünfzehn zweistimmige inventionen BWV 772-786

(Fifteen Two-Part Inventions)

It's that old major/minor ping-pong trick again, and it works on me every time.

Always find Isolde's play exceptionally stimulating, something to do with the unpredictability between the dynamic and the technical, and warts n all realism of an occasional dud string note on the old harpsic, really marvellous imho, nothing over-sanitized here.

Should enjoy my I.A. box sets more often, it's what they were made for : )

Anais Mitchell - Young Man In America

Iron & Wine's latest album - Ghost On Ghost.  First listen.

Evolution of their (his?) sound from previous albums.

Mstislav Rostropovich - J.S. Bach, Cello Suites

2 CD set.  Listening to Suites 1,4 & 5.

I have a few different cellists performing these, but this is my favorite.

Disc 7 (Beethoven #3 and Chopin #2, both with Markevitch). Haskil is supreme here. Vintage recordings of course, but both concertos sound excellent with slightly edgy treble.

Cheers,

Just starting to get into this album 'Long Island Endless Boogie'. After a recommendation on the forum from 'Phage' I think? Particularly like side two & love the cover art.

Glad you like it Phage. Their early albums are good as well.

From the excellent 2013 vinyl box set. The fabulous Scott Walker, its hard to choose now I have five of his best on new well pressed vinyl.

From the CD, which describes it better than I can:

A "retro"-spective musical performance in celebration of the brilliant marriage between Brazilian song and America's "Cool Jazz." The result? A very cool glimpse into the Bossa Nova scene of a 1960's Jazz club.

Stop it G. You know how weak I am and how easily I succumb to temptation.

Tapper Zukie, M.P.L.A., with Sly and Robbie giving the bass on my "mighty diamonds" a work out!

One day I must check out how many LPs I have with Sly and Robbie.
