What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Yet another dose of the blues prescribed by the good Dr B....

Thanks for the tip.

A great live set that is easily dismantled by a poor system.  With the S600 I had last year it just fell apart somehow but the HDX:SN2:23 is portraying it beautifully. G

As I commented earlier - these guys have found the key to Rach's elusive cello sonata. I have never heard a more compelling rendition of this masterpiece, and this disc is currently in the lead, together with David Fray's Bach recital for my disc of the year.

But - still awaiting Blechacz' new Chopin disc, Uchida in Schumann, Hewitt with a new Mozart disc (and her Faure is really excellent as well).

Cheers,

EJ

Is there an argument for saying that 1979 was the best year ever for music? During the course of today, I've listened to all four of these, on vinyl, and I think that there might well be...

It really doesn't get much better than this:

By the way - any other owners of the ORIGINAL pressing of Metal Box out there? If you are, what condition's your tin in? Mine's rusted to buggery and is heavily tarnished. Anyone know if it can be buffed up to its original state?

Another vinyl goodie from '79. I have a feeling it's going to be a good evening:

This is also good Tony.

I got into Keef Hartley after seeing the band when I was a teenager in Torquay.

CD - Archiv Produktion 2 x CD set : )

Deutsche Grammophon's very first stereo recording from 1956, and relesed in stereo in 1960.

This 2007 CD re-issue marked the 100th aniversary of the organists birth.

Been a while since i played this, still sounds fantastic to my ears : )

Thanks for the recommendations, Steve.

Never saw them live but it must have been some gig.  Time to go shopping...

My ears are salivating already (or whatever ears do?).  Unfortunately I have to wait for after September 10th where I live (and who I usually buy from) to order this.  The Nocturnes especially rank as music I personally could not live without.  Music that I have been connected to for a long time and profound music in my books.   I suppose the plan is for complete recordings from Angela at some point?  I get three Nocturnes here but I suppose my beef would be that I prefer to listen as a set.  Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

EJ, how does the Fazioli sound in Faure?  I'd imagine quite well?
