What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

^ Nils' music is great stuff. Here is spinning on of the greatest live albums
I read an interview with RLJ in Uncut magazine today, from Feb 2004 and they discussed this album...
not played for a while, but still sounds great.
One of Rickie's best...
One of Rickie's best...
+1 for all RLJ albums. Like most people, I'm rather attached to the first two albums with Pirates being in my all time top ten. Girl At Her Volcano is rather good too!

Saw her at an intimate venue about 18 months ago. A truly first class artist -.each song played from her faultless back catalogue was given a twist - 'Last Chance Texaco' being a particular highlight.
I have a Japanese pressing of GAHV which has superb snap and dynamics.....'walk away renee' brings a lump to my throat just thinking about it....G

I have it on Japanese CD and on a 10" EP. For personal reasons, I've always had a soft spot for "So Long" and "Rainbow Sleeves".
Have you heard the live albums that used to be available from her own site? I have "Chain, Austin", "Live At Red Rocks", "Live In Portland" and "Europe 1982" knocking about somewhere. Must dig them out.
Only time I've saw her live was when she was touring the first album. She was nervous but brilliant and had a magnificent band.
I've not heard these....must search around. Thanks! G

I ordered some of these quite a few years ago. AFAIR, they were held up by UK Customs and cost me as much in import duty as they did to purchase! I've never seen any of these in a UK shop.

Sounding wonderful on vinyl

I liked "Europe 1982" and "Live In Portland" best of the ones I have, but I haven't listened to them for some time.
Actually, I believe the Red Rocks set was an official release, but I don't remember getting it from a UK shop. Anyway, it's available on Amazon.
I was reluctant to buy this as I thought that it would lack something - I was wrong - again
Oh - on vinyl of course
Tom Petty. Hard Promises, remastered in 2001 on HDCD. I'm keeping an eye out for the vinyl. This sounds especially good for a CD. One of his lesser known songs, 'Night watchman' is fantastic.
I can play this without waking / annoying people and without the need for headphones
This album is beautiful - the songs are a mixture of melancholy and inspiring - a comment on the time of course and linked to age to a certain extent but really really enjoyable - oh and the sound quality is superb too.

What is it Chris? That cover's as small as this records is obviously quiet...
