What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Watched last night the French film 'Amour' in which Tharaud had a short guest appearance, playing a Schubert Bagatelle.

I really liked the last one she did, Archandroid, this is good stuff. She's very clever and includes a wide range of musical styles, perhaps to appeal to more people. But I never hear her anywhere apart from at home! Under rated perhaps...

Herbie Hancock "Quartet"

Herbie, Ron Carter, Tony Williams and a very young Wynton Marsalis.  I was

fortunate to see these gentleman at the '92 Mount Hood Jazz Festival with

Branford Marsalis also there for some quintet material.  Very much like this

rhythm section with Wayne Shorter and Miles Davis in the VSOP projects.

"What connects these four towering works is precisely what separates them. Over a spread of personal and social politics three decades in the making, they remain unscathed (if somewhat neglected), breathing with vibrant life at Lubimov’s fingertips."
