What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Kev,

My only copy is on CD and  I'm sure it sounds just as good or better on vinyl.

Great stuff!

Dav, What you reckon ?

Its got mixed reviews given Wilson's limited involvement.

It's not great, but it does have a few good tracks.

First spin. These sonatas can be heavy going, but Kozhukhin is surprisingly melodious, colourful and varied. Slowish tempi means the violence and percussiveness that is in this music is underplayed somewhat, but Kozhukhin takes this extra time for some truly stunning pianism.

Cheers,

EJ

Richter plays Britten's Piano Concerto.

Tough piece to like. Brilliance peaking through here and there but I haven't gotten a handle on it.

Sounds OK on vinyl Tony, but the problem is that the album's long - about 27 minutes a side - so it's not terribly loud. Great tunes and riffs though!

Slightly mis-named CD compilation of library, film and TV theme music. Some great work by Roy Budd, Laurie Johnson and Tony Hatch on here.

Nice one Blueknowz! Oh, to be 12 again. Love the guitar backing to the bass solo on "Mr Big".

Look at all the effects pedals! Oh, there aren't any............. I've seen local pub bands with more stage gear than this! Koss is one of my all-time favourite guitarists - just him, the guitar and the amp.

BTW - enjoying EFC's playing style under Martinez? Thought we were more than a tad lucky against the Blue Meanies.

Seems to be a little underrated, but I like it:-
