Haven't played this album in ages.
Sounds pretty decent on a non-Cirkus Sondek I put together with a groovy Royal N. I've added a Chrome Bumper HC for the Stageline giving ballsier and spacious presentation. I am reminded of how enjoyable this low-ish spec. AROed Sondek can be.

A few plays now and this album is revealing more & more. Gill has really raised the bar from her debut, Tarry Awhile. The songwriting and musicianship are first class and the backing vocals have some of the best arrangements I've heard in a long time. If you like Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo, this CD is recommended.

After a brutal week at work, managed to slip out at a decent time today to find this waiting for me at the doormat. As indicated by the title, this CD is filled with Rachmaninov's curiosities. With some composers, that means 'only for completionists' but Rachmaninov didn't pen an ugly note in his life, and on the whole, the music is quite engaging and shows us a less complicated, more direct composer - only one or two pieces of salon music are instantly forgettable. Ashkenazy is once again unbeatable, his clear way through the music really is the way to go here. He's an old man, his pianism maybe a little rustier than before (not a lot!), but his music making has only grown.
Cheers,
EJ
