What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

More light Rachmaninov / Ashkenazy, this time a 2005 recording of the Morceaux de fantaisie and other lyrical works. In contrast to the Rarities album, most of the music here is top tier Rachmaninov. One of Ashkenazy's best records, and part of Decca's short lived endeavor to change to the SACD format.

Cheers,

EJ

Inspired by another post. I used to listen to this a lot  a few years back, along with JT. I hardly see them mentioned on these shores. Still, I have fond memories of driving around with some friends, in country lanes, going to parties, festivals and the rest, well...you know... memories!

Zimerman's Chopin Ballades just became one of my favourite. This 1988 digital release also sounds one of the better digital recording I have heard from DG label from the 80s.
