What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Nice one Jeff. Don't see enough CI around these parts IMO.

Quite superb at higher than normal decibels on a sunny midday in Oslo.

The title says all.

Hi Graham

Have always liked his music.  Should have noted this is from Spotify.  I have had several of his releases over the years but currently don't own any.

Good listening

"It will come as no surprise to followers of yevgeny sudbin that his contribution to this recording lifts it from very good, to being outstanding. The meaty piano parts in the Rachmaninov and Borodin benefit hugely from his near-orchestral range and depth, and his sculptor's sense of form and phrase" - BBC Music Magazine

I have been  listening  to this as well but sample tracks from the up and coming deluxe release.

Hi ewemon.

i will be interested on your views on the deluxe release . However it will have to go some to beat my original vinyl copy on SQ.

Regards Graham.

Graham I got the sample tracks from an old friend who I used to work with many moons ago and who works for the rc so am not allowed to make any comments re sq (I promised him) at the moment but click the link below to listen to one of the tracks from it.

One of my all time favourite tracks. Really nice to hear another great take from Van. Cover versions have always deeply disappointed me. Seems no-one can nail the subtle phrasing and syncopated timing like the orginial owner.

Paul Simon "Live In New York City"

Received this yesterday. I think it'll take time to get into, but usually such albums are those that satisfy in the long run. Again, sadly the NS01 has added some digital noise to the last (title) track.

Superb frankly, if you are into folk/rock British style....also lots of rhythm and percussion, not to mention that Marc O'Reily can pluck a mean guitar, right excellent songs and sing with a slightly rough, husky voice.

And the recording is also superb bringing outhose guitar strings and his voice.

Another attempt. I had the disc since 2002 and I keep playing it at least twice a year trying to warm up to the music. So far it is not working so well.
