What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

For now I switched to something much more enjoyable...

Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore is a little charmer, one of Donizetti's best operas. This is a good recording, neither conducting or singing are as good as the best competition (I have a soft spot for the Met recording with Battle and Pavarotti), but the whole is more than the sum of its parts.

Cheers,

The double bass is very boingy

These Cinematic Orchestra albums are Stu's recommendations that I‘ve found very much to my liking.

Most of the content is smooth easy on the ear jazz, some instrumental and some with [various] vocals, and crossing boundaries to other genre influences. Very classy recording quality on nicely made vinyl.

Thanks, Ken. To be honest, I am not always ready for this funky music but a 5K run (struggle) in a strong wind and cool temperatures put me in the right mode.

This has a great driving bass throughout which poor amplification can lose the coherence of.  SN2 holding it all together nicely. G
