What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Classic 1976 album on original vinyl from pre-punk dynamic combo.

Graham P has a new album out called "Three Cords Good" he reformed The Rumours in 2011, 31 years after they last played together. Including Brinsley Schwartz on guitar and backing vocals. Its worth a listen.

On vinyl - amazing smoothness but with firework dynamics.

Paul Simon 'Original Vinyl'.

Not played this album for a long time, forgotten just how 'sweet' it sounded.

From Wagner onto more seriousness: Beethoven's Fidelio is a simple tale about sacrifice and heroism, and often credited more for these universal concepts than for the - admittedly, sometimes slightly awkward - music. But the music is gorgeous, when well sung and played as on this recording. Jon Vickers, perhaps the most powerful of the post war tenors, is riveting here as is Christa Ludwig in her soprano period. The spoken dialogue is a bit clumsy. Audio quality is excellent.

Cheers,

EJ

Schumann Symphony No.4: Kubelik/Berliner Phil
Posted on: 02 January 2013 by Florestan

Im Freien:  Nils Anders Mortensen (Piano)

L'isle joyeuse by Claude Debussy

Ballade for Piano in G minor, Op. 24 by Edvard Grieg

Estampes for Piano by Claude Debussy

Suite bergamasque: 3rd movement, Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy

Lyric Pieces, Book 5, Op. 54: no 4, Notturno by Edvard Grieg

Out of Doors, Sz 81 by Béla Bartók

An interesting and unusual collection of pieces at first sight but there is a thread that links these pieces together, according to Mortensen.  Im Freien is actually the German translation for Out of Doors - the set by Béla Bartók.  Each piece visually is representing something unique from Out of Doors such as the night or night sky, moonlight etc.

A breath of fresh air for the pianoholic that I am.

find the album on amazon, put your mouse over the album image, then right click and select "copy image address". Then, in the forum post, select the icon to the left of the  , paste in the address. You can't actually upload the image, you need the link.  Discogs is a good source if you can't find it on amazon.

When I right click I don't get the "copy image address" option....anyone advise?
