What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

What's your opinion of "Home" Dave?

On vinyl from 1973.  I did not listen to it much as a teen but now thoroughly enjoy it.  I especially like the sounds of the electric guitars on this one due, I suspect, to engineer Alan Parsons.

Vinyl - atmospheric and sort of sultry (but in a not overtly sexual way)

Ha!  I knew it BigH47.  I saw a trend developing over the past three days.  So how do you like it?

Joe,

It's a great collection. One of my all time favourite artists. Some good "covers" Goldfinger and Green Onions especially.

This album was discussed in the 'Identifying newer AAA vinyl' forum recently. Recorded in MONO, in Sun Studios and other locations, produced by T Bone Burnett into one mic. First impression is its like having a live band playing in your living-room and that's because it was actually recorded live. The songs are beautifully crafted about life death and growing older.

Graham.

I have this - It's brilliant!

I'm listening to this on borrowed CD. I rather like it and think I might buy it myself (although on vinyl probably, I'm not that interested in all the extra gubbins)

BigH47,

I posted Petty's Anthology as my Best of Best of.  I don't have the Live set but isn't live 'Breakdown' cool?  His live versions of 'I Need You' and 'Taxman' on the Concert for George album are fantastic.  He has a voice and singing style made for psychedelia (as well as hard rock).

A warm snap on the way, so in anticipation...

Hi Dave,

The tolling of the Church Bell on last track, “Forgotten Reprise” is very poignant. The father of Hans and René passed away while making the band a meal at the small church in the tiny village of Maurik, where they recorded the album. This was also Anneke's last recording with the band. I recommend seeing her 'live' with her own band or as an acoustic duo with Danny Cavanagh from Anathama. I'll post in my gig list if I find her next tour dates. BTW, The Gathering have just started 'live' dates again in Europe, so hopefully a UK visit is on the cards.

Thanks Dusty,

I prefer their later release, All Rights Removed, which will get a play on vinyl soon!
