What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

After an afternoon hosting a children's party (10 7-yr old boys...) it's time for some hardcore Pollini. Known for his literalness and laser-sharp pianism, he impresses just as much by his ability to never lose sight of the structure and long tension arches. One of my heroes. What is said to be his last Beethoven recording will appear on Deutsche Grammophon in October this year.

Cheers,

EJ

Her new Schumann finds Uchida again at her hypnotic very best. Every note is considered and weighed, and she has the concentration to pull it off.
