What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Tales of Us as Flac 24/96

Good start in a lazy holiday.

I appreciate all those recommendations in this forum. It's a good way to learn about music.

bishopla,

Are you a fan of Breaking Bad or is this just posted coincidental to the series finale and Baby Blue?

Either way, I like this band. A great power guitar sound and easy to like. Apropos of the Apple label.

joerand,

Yes I have always been a fan of Badfinger and yes I am a huge fan of breaking bad. After the final episode I could not wait to play this. "Baby Blue" has been looping in my head since last Sunday evening.

Larry

Larry,

It's been looping in my head too since the finale of BrBa. I've been to several record shops in Seattle looking for Straight Up on vinyl, but to no avail.  My son, who also loved the BrBa series, was enamored with the song played as Walt dies. He immediately found the Baby Blue MP3; I may have to settle for a digital copy (CD) instead of the LP .

What a progressive, artistic, and revolutionary TV series BrBa was! Maybe we should start a topic for it. Perhaps the Home Theatre forum?

Vinyl 1st press. IMO Rod Stewart's best album.

Isao Tomita, Pictures at an Exhibition on CD ripped to FLAC.

This CD I bought back in the late 1980s in Japan.

I am puzzled how good it sounds with my new Hicap

I'm partial to "Every Picture Tells a Story" (don't it?)

Have you heard Rod on Truth Joe?

Negative, first I've heard of the LP. Perhaps I should sample it. I do think that RS got increasingly less palatable through time to the point of unlistenable.

Thanks Steve.

Totally agree Steve! However, I don't think your average Rod fan will have heard this fantastic album. I have a colleague at work who's husband does a Rod tribute act.! I suggested that he might have a listen to this album for some material, don't think he has included any as yet  . it's a brilliant album and very close to my heart as it was my first introduction to  both Rod and more importantly Jeff and the blues ; by my best friend who is sadly no longer with us,Thanks for the post.

Regards Graham.

Rod might have done his best works with Jeff Beck but I think that most of his early 70's recordings are great. In my opinion he is well underappreciated as and artist maybe due to the turns his career took later on.

I'll put on this one (a personal favourite of mine).

Gasoline Alley ‎(LP, Album)Vertigo6360 500UK1970

(doubt it's not a first press though)

didn't really know this music, it was a great treat for me, recommended...

I like it, there are perhaps better versions out there - but as a Jarrett fan I needed to have this one, at it's a treat..

I have just recently bought Gasoline Alley (1st press Vertigo Swirl). It's a good album but as Graham alluded to the Truth LP has Rod singing some great Blues. A very old track that Rod sang on in his earlier career was with Aynsley Dunbar's Retaliation called 'Stone Crazy'. I've only ever seen it on one compilation album but to me it's Rod's best Blues track ever.
