What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Mazzy Star. She Hangs Brightly.

Saw them once at the Mean Fiddler, London in 1993. She was wearing what looked like a see through knighty and underwear... she was an angel.

Love the moody, slightly psychedelic jangle and her dreamy voice.

This is the music from the film ETERNITY AND A DAY by Theo Angelopoulos. Eternity and a Day Soundtrack Greek composer Eleni Karaindrou's soundtrack for the award-winning film Eternity and a Day employs haunting passages arranged for a multitude of instruments used in traditional Greek folk music. Impressively, the music stands well on its own, apart from the context of the film; that's the sign of a well-composed soundtrack.

bishopla,

Are you a fan of Breaking Bad or is this just posted coincidental to the series finale and Baby Blue?

Either way, I like this band. A great power guitar sound and easy to like. Apropos of the Apple label.

joerand,

Yes I have always been a fan of Badfinger and yes I am a huge fan of breaking bad. After the final episode I could not wait to play this. "Baby Blue" has been looping in my head since last Sunday evening.

Larry,

It's been looping in my head too since the finale of BrBa. I've been to several record shops in Seattle looking for Straight Up on vinyl, but to no avail.  My son, who also loved the BrBa series, was enamored with the song played as Walt dies. He immediately found the Baby Blue MP3; I may have to settle for a digital copy (CD) instead of the LP .

What a progressive, artistic, and revolutionary TV series BrBa was! Maybe we should start a topic for it. Perhaps the Home Theatre forum?

I'm In. Best Television series ever!!

I don't know if you can call it jazz but it doesn't matter since the music is so captivating.

Rubinstein sounds old fanshioned and older recording ( 60s ) Brendel surprisingly less boring!

Still preer Wunder over Lang Lang but neither are Kempff!

Do you happen to know if this version is any good: Truth - LIMITED HQ-180 GR. VINYL EDITION (Music On Vinyl, 2013)?

(not managed to track the original from my usual sources yet)

John Coltrane with morning coffee,

while waiting for the postman to deliver my favourite things -

expecting a few orders of vinyl to arrive later this morning : )

I've not heard the MOV reissue but it may be your best bet as the 1st presses in decent condition go for over £100. You can get 3rd pressings pretty cheap though.

Ok, thanks. I might try the MOV then (£50 is something of a limit for me at the moment).

Sensible. When paying that much it's best to make sure you like it first.

A great record by an outstanding songwriter.

Oh what a change from the later balls to wall mixes. Straight up pre stadium Rush, string buzzes and all. Excellent.
