What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Haim, how is it? I don't think these performances ever made it to compact disc, which in the case of Zimerman is probably not because DG couldn't make some money on it. Zimerman himself may not be too happy with his early work? Rumour has it he is very picky on recording quality.

The great James Govan singing Ain't No Sunshine live in Beale Street, not sure from what year. Classic version.

Thanks for the tip Graham & Steve, this really is great (those who like ... with Eric Clapton -   A Hard Road - Crusade era Bluesbrakers quite possibly like this too).

(European EMI 2013 release, not a MOV item as previously indicated - apparently there was a mistake on the web site of the local record shop)

For those who might not know there are also quite impressive other musicians included beside earlier mentioned Rod and Jeff.

Personnel (from the album cover)

  • Jeff Beck — electric guitars, acoustic guitar on "Greensleeves"; lap steel guitar on "Shapes of Things"; bass guitar on "Ol' Man River"
  • Rod Stewart — lead vocals
  • Ronnie Wood — bass guitar, backing vocals on "Let Me Love You"
  • Micky Waller — drums

Additional personnel

  • Nicky Hopkins — piano on "Morning Dew" and "Blues Deluxe"
  • John Paul Jones — Hammond organ on "Ol' Man River"
  • Keith Moon — timpani on "Ol' Man River"
