What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Brendel's D.960 from his digital studio recording. I rate this set very highly, but Schubert's B flat sonata was never Brendel's strongest achievement. It sounds pedestrian compared to Pires and Kovacevich, but on its own terms, it has an addictive gait, after taking its time to fire up. The fantastic recording helps.

Cheers,

Paul Lewis' 2002 recording of D960 is a more intimate, economical reading than his recent live gig, but he already goes for the jugular here. An excellent performance.

Cheers,

Glad you are enjoying it Bart. I'm looking forward to Monday's US release so I can get my hands on a physical copy of NEW at the record store. I wonder if they will have the vinyl.

I wish Macca would do an all analogue album, maybe collaborate with other analogue men like Neil Young and/or Joe Walsh.

By the time Beethoven was McCartny's age he had been dead fifteen years!

New, indeed!
