What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I put this album up among Paul's top three post-Beatles efforts.

The cover photography from brother Mike is fantastic!

The ambigram of Paul McCartneys name on the CD is very cool as well.

Lyrically, musically, SQ-ly, and artistically a great CD!

Uchida's B flat is a masterpiece, one of the highlights of her Schubert series. (Mitsuko: please give us your interpretation of the Wanderer Fantasie!)

A Blues day today I think.

D.960 from Kempff's series. Kempff recorded a fair amount of Schubert's early work, so besides his acclaimed performances of Schubert's great works, he provides an excellent opportunity to hear a Schubert who still enjoyed the sun shine.

Kempff's account of the last sonata is very good and some of his best work on disc IMO; worth the price of admission of the whole set.

Cheers,

Next: Perahia, with an impressively structured and crystal clear reading.

6 Music....  David Lynch. speaks to Matt Everitt about his formative early musical influences (Chopin and the sound of B36 bombers flying over his childhood home apparently) his passion for Elvis and early rock n roll, directing David Bowie, his love of jazz, how he creates his own unique music
