What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Very good Steve. The original album has been (analogue) remastered by Albini and pressed on two 45rpm 180g discs. The third LP, at 33 1/3, has various ouutakes etc.

Vinyl is nice and quiet and flat and even on my humble system sounds pretty good - loud, and in your face, which is how I think it should sound. Not necessarily a "hi-fi experience" but this is rock & roll, after all

Cheers Kevin. Going to give the CD a spin tonight to see if i still like the album don't think i've listen to it for about 5 years always seem to go for Nevermind.

Doug,

This is nothing less than a declaration of war..

Here is one of their bright spots, hopefully you agree.

Bert, I love Debussy's piano music. How do the Preludes on this version compare to Zimerman's?

I don't have the Zimmerman ones, but I have to say that overall the performance is exceptional - so I would recommend it overall. I have interpretations of pieces of this material by others and they don't match by far what you will find on this set, so buying recommendation.

the reading is so different from the "regular ones" that's ok to have a sub optimal recording quality..

Krystian Zimerman is also very, very good, in the preludes.

Yes, Yessongs, 1973 vinyl.

It's a bit crap really, I've no idea why anyone ever took them at all seriously, but it's still pretty good fun. Takes me back to my 3rd Form grammar school days
