Kevin whats the sound quality like?I've been tempted by this release.
Very good Steve. The original album has been (analogue) remastered by Albini and pressed on two 45rpm 180g discs. The third LP, at 33 1/3, has various ouutakes etc.
Vinyl is nice and quiet and flat and even on my humble system sounds pretty good - loud, and in your face, which is how I think it should sound. Not necessarily a "hi-fi experience" but this is rock & roll, after all

Raw and unrefind, Weller at his best. Prefered over his studio offerings.

Thought I would get this out and give it a spin, on vinyl..
Speaking of ECM New Series, can you believe that this label has not one recording of any music of Rachmaninov? This is outrageous! This is scandalous! I mean really, who do they think they are? Come to think of it, they have completely also dissed Chopin, Mendelssohn, Grieg, Prokofiev, and Ravel. This has to be intentional but I better not say anything as I'm already in danger of speaking my mind too much lately? Hmmph....

I will now listen to the 5th CD of the set - so far it has been a delight and I can recommend this set without any reservations...
Bert, I love Debussy's piano music. How do the Preludes on this version compare to Zimerman's?

I don't have the Zimmerman ones, but I have to say that overall the performance is exceptional - so I would recommend it overall. I have interpretations of pieces of this material by others and they don't match by far what you will find on this set, so buying recommendation.
Love his Chopin pieces.

the reading is so different from the "regular ones" that's ok to have a sub optimal recording quality..

It's a bit crap really, I've no idea why anyone ever took them at all seriously, but it's still pretty good fun. Takes me back to my 3rd Form grammar school days
