What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I only listen to this when I am in a subliminal state of mind. The forum today has seen a load of pretty cool contributions. Peace!

Jason.

Sorry about that Jason, but the smaller images just didn't do justice to the art work. It took me a while to get past the dumb name (Shpongle) and the overtly explicit graphics. The music also seemed a bit in-yer-face at first too, but it has depths, several in fact, and even more in 24/96, downloadable from the Shpongle (yuk) store.

Their "Tales of The Inexpressible", is not as upfront. The opening track 'Dorset Perception' is quite a trip. Old news perhaps for some of you here, but a new discovery for me.

Second play of the day. If you want adventure in music, then this delivers like no other record in your collection. I feel much better that it's in mine. Oh, forgot to mention it's mainly melancholic

Taking a crack at Brahms' violin Sonata No.3. who's that bum on the cover!

This is a Richter/Oistrakh live concert in '72.

I found this cute Richter Animation.

Osmo Vänskä is a name everybody with an interest in Sibelius will know, since his recording cycle for Bis in the 90s. He commenced a second cycle with the mellower sounding Minnesota Orchestra, but it looks like that one won't be finished, at least under current management and/or with Vänskä as chief conductor. First spin of the disc combining the accessible first and masterpiece fourth. I very much like the performances so far - Vänskä hasn't rethought his way with these works, but the orchestra makes a difference. The recording is demonstration class (I have the 24bit qobuz files).

Cheers,

EJ

EJ,

You know who else is pretty good with Sibelius is Essa-Pekka Salonen.
