What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I still have my original Juicy Lucy album bought in 1973 and now the CD to go with it. Excellent album.

joerand!
The Best of Cream was the first album I ever bought. I hitch hiked into Norwich over 30 miles from where I lived to purchase it. I was actually after Disraeli Gears but it was sold out. I still have the LP and its partner CD. I was not aware that the sound quality was as bad as you made out. Mind you I played my copy on a green Dansette in the common room. Halcyon days....

Original Vertigo Swirl vinyl. I think I originally bought this album as a teenager for the cover as much as for the music. Oh the hormones of youth! The music is excellent also.
Gosh, I'd completely forgotten about this album and its cover. As you suggest, an intriguing interplay between title and image for male teenagers. A world that was both simpler and more baffling at the same time!

Saw them in my local hall in 1970.

Oh heavens Steve! I loved Juicy Lucy in my youth but the passage of time has denied me the memory of any trace of their music.
I shall immediately, if not sooner, seek to reacquaint myself with them.
What a splendid chap you are!

My memory of the original Cream LPs I had was that none of them were much of a quality when played on a proper system. Pity. But maybe they were meant to be enjoyed on 45 rpm singles played on a Dansette eg Sunshine of Your Love, White Room, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Strange Brew (fabulous) and latterly Badge. That's how I enjoyed them and the memory is still triggered when I play the indifferent CD versions today.

Arve Henrickson, "Places of Worship", on Rune Grammofon vinyl.
Got it this morning. Absolutely superb.
Best of Cream. On Polydor vinyl.
I realize Cream was not the best recorded group, but I expected more out of this s/h purchase, an import to me. The vinyl is VG+ but it sounds like crap. I have Cream on CD and this crappy vinyl sounds like it is due to both poor recording (over-recorded, over-loaded mics, low-grade tapes or equipment) and poor mastering or pressing. Any opinions from those across the pond appreciated .
I have all the Cream LPs as 1st pressings. Whilst I agree the SQ of Best of Cream is, for some reason, not great the other LPs are much better, especially the Reaction presses. I don't know what happened to BOC. One LP I can recommend is Full Cream which is a budget Polydor reissue from the early '70s of Fresh Cream. This is cheap to obtain and is good SQ wise.

Well, Steve J, you've stirred the old memories sufficiently for me to place an order for this.

I hope both you and Tony enjoy it.

Thanks for all the input from everyone on Cream SQ. I have a 2 CD remaster of Wheels of Fire (studio and live at the fillmore) that has better SQ. I also have a Millenium Collection Best of Cream CD that has decent SQ. Interesting because all the Clapton I have sounds very nice.
Maybe it's the Polydor vinyl? I recently bought a s/h VG+ copy of Who's Next on Polydor vinyl and was disappointed to find my old and overplayed MCA copy sounded better.
Great album Tony did you buy his Southern Nights album?
