What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I'm out. That's the only one I've got and love it.  Very creative band and a pitty they are no more!

For a complete change of pace and mood. A top-notch album from one of the great underrated jazz pianists.

Rush - Fly by Night - on CD

Fly by Night

Just revisiting some of their early stuff. I have just bought it on CD, having owned it on vinyl for many years. In my opinion, Rush are in a league all of their own. Long may they continue.

Baron von Tollbooth & the Chrome Nun -  If you like The Dead, you'll love this. Guest appearance(s) by Jerry Garcia

Having recently been introduced to his earlier album, Let Them Talk, and really enjoyed it I thought I'd get Hugh Laurie's latest album.  It's just as good but with a wider variety of vocalists.

The SN2:HCDR really gives the individual instrumentation lots of breathing space without losing coherence of the whole. Great stuff. G

'Drive Home' (very extended CD single and Blu-Ray disc) by Steven Wilson

This album (single?) is worth every penny for the live tracks alone. Unfortunately the title track on the CD is edited, but the full album version is on the Blu-Ray disc together with the video. On balance though I think I prefer the studio album version of the exceptional 'Holy Drinker'.
