What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

After months of putting off getting this disc (on account of the coy or even impish photo of Mullova) is seems it is better to don't look but only listen.  There is much to be pleased with in this way.

What do you think about it to her old recording of the Bach VC?

Strangely enough I don't have any of the early Mullova Philips recordings of Bach.  In looking around now they seem to be rare and when found the prices are at a premium.  Do you have a preference between the two?

Wonderfully dark, inward looking playing by this brother and sister team.  This suits me perfectly this evening.

This is a wonderfill recording.

Sergey Khacahtryan is IMHO the best living violinist.

Yup!  Actually one of my favourite recordings of recent months happens to be Khachatryan's Bach Sonatas & Partitas.  This is what lead me to this Brahms.

Jangly, catchy chillwave. Pitchfork was wrong on this one.

Stacey Kent - The Changing Lights

I am a huge STacey Kent fan and recently saw her live in concert in Brussels. Given her complete oevre, I think this album is one of the "lesser" ones. Lyrics, compositions and "swung" are not like it was used to

Hi

I prefer "Watershed" slightly to "Ingenue",  K.D. is terrific.

Yes, those are my Ergo IX speakers in the avatar.  They were made for me by James in New Zealand from native Rimu hardwood.
