What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Lucinda Williams "West"

Siris’s Svale Band - Hard to place other than Jazz, but irrespective of any of your pref music this band is a bit special in all respects.

Siri Beathe Gellein has one of the most emotional voices I’ve heard anywhere.

The band is a far cry from melodic as in relaxing - & nothing is melodic as in harmony.  Its unique in that it has two bass players that in bass player terms are very harmonic, the other two provide a selection of very tasty sax & drums.

"Svale" carries a double meaning in Norwegian: "swallow," as in the bird, and "cool," as in jazz.

If I were to pick one it would be “Blackbird”

The "Love For Sale" track is really a bit special, it just exudes the low life & hopelessness that says – well the title says it all – her unique voice paints a very atmospheric picture

"Love" is a real woofer workout – its got stuff that goes real deep & with tone & timbre that many speakers will not resolve.

The other tracks – all are worth a write up - are just unique

Its all close mic’d & front row sound stage stuff makes you sit up & listen & then luxuriate in her voice & the skills & sounds of the band.

Choosing your favourite 'Frapp album is like trying to choose a favourite child, but I think the superlative "Seventh Tree" is just edged out by "Felt Mountain."

Cheers Tony. I've already seen them 19 times and they've never been crap so I can't see any reason for that to change.
