What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

It isn't as it isn't due out till 11th Feb. It isn't hitting me immediately like some of his previous work but it has more than it's fair share of great trax.

Rosanne Cash "The Essential......."

I have "Black Cadillac" and "10 Song Demo" but looking at the back catalogue was a bit daunting, so a best of selection chosen by the artist.  "10 Song Demo" highly recommend for those who love stripped-down versions of songs with simple production. I believe it was originally recommended here by "bdnyc".

Unusual music played on the double bass, some great rhythms

Contrasting sounds from the sublime to the challenging...

Try the demented Vivian Stanshall-ish storyline of Proctor Cylex ...

Suzanne Vega, "Close-up Volume 3,  State of Being"

This is Volume 3 (of 4 volumes) of Suzanne re-recording selections of her catalogue with the benefit of years of maturity.  I was new to her music with this series, it is quite wonderful.  Simple acoustic productions.

I am a true fan of 'La Spagna'.

But I can't stand the wrong approaches and 'false' CDs.

Rather this one:

Taste it - you will collapse I am sure.

Norah Jones "Little Broken Hearts"

For me, not as easily accessible as "The Fall" or "Not Too Late".  But with a little effort it is growing on me.  All songs written and produced by Norah and Danger Mouse. Listening should not always be easy.

Matthew Ryan "In The Dusk Of Everything"

from amazon: "He sings with such a soulful quality, and the music and lyrics capture, for me at least, the essence of our contradictory lives- beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. I highly recommend this album, and this artist!!!  He puts so much of himself out there, and his courage and talent provide a life soundtrack that is unique and moving."
