What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Some of the albums I will be posting today will be like saying goodbye to an old friend as every 6 months I have a major clearout of discs as I only have so much space. This is the last of the Michael Jerome Browne discs I still have in my collection. It is a pity sometimes that we don't have a marketplace on here for discs as most are given away free to friends.

Japanese 1st mastering 48DP which IMHO beats the latest AF disc for sq. This foc copy is on its way to a friend in the US. Luckily enough I still have another for my personal listening pleasure.

Anna Maria Jopek - incredible album ... one of the best female voices in my collection

This album is really growing on me. I particularly like sides 3&4 of the double vinyl, very moody, atmospheric music for a wet Autumn Sunday morning...

Iver, i respect your tastes in female vocals. Woud you recommend me getting this album?

Hey Paul,

I would. The album has a more "poppy" and "uptempo" characteristic than her previous ones, but still the lady is incredible. It is a live album with some duets. Again the sound quality is also goods,

I think the snow that came last night is staying so it's the start of fresh new musical season for me!  I do not know why but I love the connection between snow, cold, and spending time with music.  A favourite fantasy of mine is that around November 1st, 15 feet of snow falls on the house which of course does not allow me to open the front door.  Naturally, I'd have enough food and supplies to last until April 30th so I could catch up on listening and also sit at the piano and practice for 10 hours per day.

I do not know why but I love the connection between rain, fog, and spending time with music.  After stocking up on April 30th for the next six months and doing all my errands, get the piano tuned, get equipment recapped as needed etc., I have a similar recurring dream that starts on May 1st and lasts until October 30th and strangely, this same place experiences constant heavy rain throughout the day with heavy fog to start and end the daylight time.

My serotonin levels must be peeking.  It feels like I just had some fine dark chocolate for breakfast as just thinking about this heavenly possibility makes me jump for joy....

...and yes, I AM sane (insert googly eyes and strange laugh here).  I am simply musing about the tragedy of how sometimes what one wants and desires in life, is always just out of reach or simply never going to happen.

"Polyphonic Dialogues (the album’s title) offers listeners the opportunity of comparing and contrasting the two composers’ approach to the form (preludes & fugues). Shchedrin shows up as the master colourist and long-established eclectic, more preoccupied with textural and rhythmic contrasts, as opposed to Shostakovich’s greater contrapuntal density and formal solidity."
