What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I'll checkout this previous release Jeff. I like the new album Ardor, even after just one play. The closing track is an 11 minute epic!

Hope your keeping well.

Hi Denis

I have Gary Shaw to thank for making me aware of The Opium Cartel several years ago.  I have the new one downloaded but haven't listened to it yet.

Good listenin'

Cover art looks like it's Klaus Voormann inspired.

The Wind

Warren ZevonAudio CD

Cluytens/Paris Conservatoire Orchestra US Angel Mono Box set.

So far I am loving every scores. This set has such a rhythmic lyrical flair with a great attitude, particularly Le Tombeau de Couperin. Even the over played Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte is a fresh listen. This original US Angel box set sounds clean and decent but I finally took a chance and ordered the Testament reissue box set.

I always get a  bit melancholy when I put this one on, being Warren's final effort. A great artist, and like so many rockers, he left us too soon.

Van Morrison. Moondance. I finally came across a decent s/h copy on vinyl this weekend. Very nice. One of those LPs I kick myself for not buying in my youth.

The Groundhogs - Split

I just can't stop playing these recent Groundhog purchases.

John Mellencamp. Human Wheels. 2005 CD remaster of the 1993 release.

Great rhythm and strings throughout this LP. Title track is powerful; a beautiful, poetic, haunting eulogy.

A very old vinyl copy...

Porcupine Tree... Stupid Dream (Double Vinyl)

Quite simply the most inventive and powerful 'live' band I've seen in years. The next release is about to start recording. They deserve a wider success.

In the meantime...

I still like her style of playing, while Eric le Sage might be an even better choice for Schumann....

An incredible mixture of classic rock, doom metal and prog visions. Lee Dorrian at his best!

Can't say I've heard of the film, and must agree with Kevin's comment.

I came across the CD by chance. Last week I bought a job lot of old hifi separates at an auction, somebody had left the CD in the CD player.

Sleep Furiously by Thumpermonkey.

Listening on Thumpermonkey/Bandcamp W/S. Not too sure about this one, I know one member at least likes them a lot.

It certainly ticks many boxes of music from other artists, most of which I like.

Whether it is strong enough as a separate unique entity I don't know. Maybe a couple more listens, could be worth a punt at £8.
