What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

One of the best gig line-up's this year, Kevin. I'll be in touch to meet up

1st press vinyl. Awaiting the 45rpm Mobile Fidelity version which Spin CDs informs me is being released on the 25th November although I haven't seen it on any other sites. The original vinyl is not that well pressed. The SQ is good but the thin vinyl has always been a little crackly in quiet passages.

The 1st & 2nd Blackfield albums performed 'live' in NYC. Their peak period for me.

Sounds good Steve, considering the age and origin of much of the material. Nice flat quiet vinyl. The packaging is lovely, nice attention to detail and good quality printing. As for the music, there are some real gems in there...

One small gripe - no polylined inner bags were supplied.

Interestingly this package is the first Beatles product that seems to have nothing to do with EMI - it's a Universal release, licenced by Apple and the BBC.

'63 Vox recording by Brendel got me the *lights on* moment for me on Schubert Impromptus.

Now, this Mutter's Brahms Sonata indeed is lovely. She gives a wider range of voices and confidence altho, her earlier innocent style can be charming, too. Thanks for the reco!

Kuma,

Glad you enjoy the Brahms. Can I suggest you now try to get hold of Mullova/Anderszewski for a very different approach to this music, all lean and focused, and ultimately Suk/Katchen as the duo to beat. This is some seriously dense, difficult to grasp music, and it helped me to listen to these very different performances.

Cheers,

EJ

In keeping with the significance and solemnity of the day.  Many thanks to all veterans on this day of Rememberance.

Playing Disc1 now. SQ as good as one could expect given the source and is much better than the '90s Volume 1. I agree the card inners are a pain but otherwise it's a nice package.

Keith Urban "Fuse"  great new release from a very

under-rated guitar player (and songwriter).  Commercially popular, critically

ridiculed, and oh-so wrong for sophisticates.  Rock on, Keith.
