What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.
Anyway, links:

I bought mine all individually for a Fiver in HMV
The Boxed Set is available on Amazon at £115.07 only one left though you need to be Quick!
Many thanks, Blueknowz. I've just ordered it. Will report back. I know some on here pay that (and more) for vinyl but it's a new experience for me to shell out that for CDs. Gulp!

A wonderfully well produced album.
A wonderfully well produced album.
I love that album - but only have it on CD atm

I suspect it still sounds fabulous on your CDS3/XPS
Some heavy-duty Garbage to round-off the evening. Push it being particularly good at getting the adrenaline going.
Japanese vinyl replica CD, from the box set:
These Japanese CDs are the best Zep CDs I have heard.
Kevin - if you don't mind me asking, where did you source this? All my Led Zep CDs are poor or just about ok. I'd love to get some decent ones.

Hi MDS
I got the set about 6 months ago from Pop Market for £77, which is great value. The packaging is great, with the kind of attention to detail found in the Beatles Mono CD box of 2009.
It comes up on Pop Market every three or four months or so and is well worth getting.
You also get all six sleeves for ITTOD and the "turquoise" sleeve for LZ1.
Something refreshing after all the storms and power outages.
After first movement of my previous listing, I decided to change to this version..
It's the right season for Schubert tunes.
This Hotter/Moore Wintereise is terrific. I might even prefer this over Fischer-Dieskau sets. This remastered CD from 1999 sounds so natural and well done. it's a worthy substitute for a costly original 33CX Columbia pressing.
Traffic- Welcome to the Canteen
On vinyl
during my workout...
obviously Schubert with him again :-)
Another spin this morning.
Cheers,

As a soloist, Faust's charisma and gravitas fairly outshine Batiashvili's. However, Harding and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra sound like the smallish band that they are, and that puts this recording in a niche. If you like this approach (and it took me some time but I do now), this is truly excellent with reference recording quality to match.
Best cover of the lot, too.
Cheers,
EJ
Recordings: Bergamo, May 1985
Nothing not to like about this splendid Quartet version, delving deep into sincerity with fluid rhythmic pace.
Very enjoyable for my first listen : )
Debs
This is one of the few recordings of this work I do not know (generally I have not investigated that many string quartet versions, saxophone quartet versions and similar arrangements). This one seems to be played by some members of the Italian quartet, so I would expect it to sound sweet and sonorous. Do you know if it is available somewhere?
PS: BTW the picture of the score on the cover is turned upside down (it is the end of CPT VIII).
I purchased my pre-owned copy via Amazon uk [zoverstocks] for £5.25 The jewel case is a bit grubby and cracked but the CDs are in mint condition so i’m happy.
There is a new copy available via Amazon.uk [other sellers] for £22.54
It may pay to shop around or look for a download.
This Nuova Era Records double CD issue was produced in 1988, Italy
It’s a very pleasant version though-out, some of the contras and canons are arranged for duo or trio which lends characterful variations to the structure along the way.
An excellent live recording with a very well behaved audience : )

Very many thanks, Kevin. I've taken the plunge and am told it will arrive on Tues or Weds. Have paid rather more than you did but if this CD set allows me to properly enjoy Led Zep again as I used to when I had it all on vinyl I shall regard it as money well spent.

For a restful afternoon
I've always had soft spot for the unique voice of Roger Chapman and the first five tracks of this album were recorded live just up the road from me in Croydon.
24-bit AIFF from USB
A really fine record by Janine Jansen and her small band (including dad on harpsichord). If you are receptive to Jansen's unique mix of musicality and intense note spinning (some would say: fussy), this is not to be missed. Great recording quality.
Cheers,
EJ

She looks very uncomfortable with the pose for the cover photograph!
