What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Kevin - if you don't mind me asking, where did you source this? All my Led Zep CDs are poor or just about ok. I'd love to get some decent ones.

Hi MDS

I got the set about 6 months ago from Pop Market for £77, which is great value. The packaging is great, with the kind of attention to detail found in the Beatles Mono CD box of 2009.

It comes up on Pop Market every three or four months or so and is well worth getting.

You also get all six sleeves for ITTOD and the "turquoise" sleeve for LZ1.

Very many thanks, Kevin. I've taken the plunge and am told it will arrive on Tues or Weds. Have paid rather more than you did but if this CD set allows me to properly enjoy Led Zep again as I used to when I had it all on vinyl I shall regard it as money well spent.

Did you buy from Amazon MDS? (Or an Amazon reseller?) - be aware that there are counterfeits out there, so if the print/packaging quality is not top-notch, or if there are any typos, send it back - you'll have an inferior-sounding fake...

I purchased my pre-owned copy via Amazon uk [zoverstocks] for £5.25 The jewel case is a bit grubby and cracked but the CDs are in mint condition so i’m happy.

There is a new copy available via Amazon.uk [other sellers] for £22.54

It may pay to shop around or look for a download.

This Nuova Era Records double CD issue was produced in 1988, Italy

It’s a very pleasant version though-out, some of the contras and canons are arranged for duo or trio which lends characterful variations to the structure along the way.

An excellent live recording with a very well behaved audience : )

Debs

Thanks for this information, Debs. In the first hand I investigated amazon.it´s web page and found the CD, But it could not be sent to my address from Italy, so I had to order it from amazon.co.uk.

However, while investigating amazon.it`s web page I found three other recordings of the work, which I ordered. One organ version (Sergey Dizhur), one piano version (Celimene Daudet) and one version with the Kölner Gambenquartett. Surfing on amazon may be a rather expensive activity.

A really fine record by Janine Jansen and her small band (including dad on harpsichord). If you are receptive to Jansen's unique mix of musicality and intense note spinning (some would say: fussy), this is not to be missed. Great recording quality.

Cheers,

EJ

She played on the Andrew Marr show on Sunday Bachs Badinerie or something does she do this piece on this album? It was really very good

Thanks for the tip, Kevin.  I've checked my Amazon order and it tells me the set is sold by Skyvo-direct.  I'll check the printing as you suggest.

Classic Records vinyl.

Having enjoyed Rumours I thought I'd try this. Like many Genesis and Phil Collins CDs, this one tends to have some glare and as I'm trying out some new kit I thought this would give is tough test.

All this talk of Led Zep. Well, I couldn't resist a dose, too. Since I've been loving you and  Bron-y-aur stomp, in particular.

She looks very uncomfortable with the pose for the cover photograph!

They should have used this one...

That must be the badinerie from the second orchestral suite - it's not on this CD...
