What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I have been enjoying those "Fragments". A collection of small Schubert tunes that are never finished by the composer. Perfect for a calm reflective moments. These tunes are full of emotions as if Schubert's autobiography. Not sure how to evaluate vocal pieces, but there is a warmth and comforting about Bostridge's voice yet there is a underlying sadness. Poignant and eerie when the tune stops in the middle and goes to nowhere like an abandoned house. The silence after the abrupt stops tell a lot of stories. Piano sounds clear as a bell but lyrical and expressive. The two Allegrettos are precious but played with refreshing lively spirit. I love the way the CD ends without a big finale. Perfect for  Schubert's disposition.

Ravel String Quartet in F Major: One of the better new release in vinyl. I'll take this digital recording over ill-fated all analogue Decca's Lisitsa LP.

A long-time favourite. Still think this is the best of the Supertramp albums

A really fine record by Janine Jansen and her small band (including dad on harpsichord). If you are receptive to Jansen's unique mix of musicality and intense note spinning (some would say: fussy), this is not to be missed. Great recording quality.

Cheers,

EJ

She played on the Andrew Marr show on Sunday Bachs Badinerie or something does she do this piece on this album? It was really very good

That must be the badinerie from the second orchestral suite - it's not on this CD...

Thank you

Live album the one without Garm Parsons. Also agree with Steve C regarding the Endless Boogie - Long Island album particularly  side 2 which is just brilliant....
