What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I'm so glad I bought this 'Acoustic' CD on it's release (very expensive now).
An essential recording by Clayhill, who for financial reasons had to disband. One of the great travesties of any recording artistes. Ted Barnes & Ali Friend now record with Emily Barker + Gill Sandell & Gavin Clark surfaces with UNKLE.
Bob Dylan "Tempest"
Brilliant. G
Angus & Julia Stone "A Book Like This"
Continuing the syncopated piano theme. G
Bill Deasy "Chasing Down A Spark"
A classic example of an 'at first challenging' album (which got mixed reviews) enduring. It's brave experimentation marks the 'Great' from the 'Good' imho. G

This post from Denis reminded me to play this fantastic 1998 album from Sunhouse, all the songs are written by Gavin Clarke. If you have never heard this album trust me if you can get hold of a copy you are in for a treat.
Amazon currently have it on for 0.01p used + postage. I might just buy another copy just in case!
Graham.
Nice Decca/Deram 60s compilation, picked at random off the shelves

This album is AMAZING in a good system.
A lot going on there musically.
One of the work's classic performances: Itzhak Perlman and Carlo Maria Giulini conducting the Chicago. The performance has an autumnal glow, emphasized by the slow tempos throughout and Perlman's slightly schmalzy - but dramatically effective - fiddling. The recording quality holds up well, but inevitably comes up short next to Faust or Repin. Still, would not want to be without this one.
Cheers,
EJ
Michael Chorney & Dollar General "Dispensation Of The Ordinary"
I so enjoyed the Mod Scene compilation that I'm now getting into girls (on CD)

Sorry, guys, IMHO this is one of Joni's worst albums. Classic case of double album bloat & Jaco's bass swamps every track he appears on. Still, an off-form Joni is better than most others best.
Regards, Vlad
Why sorry?

I disagree. I don't normally like Joni Mitchell, she witters far, far too much, a bit like a hyperactive parakeet on helium.
But on "DJRD" "Mingus" and "Hejira", the pleasingly experimental, rather jazzy, music takes one's mind off her infernal warbling, so I really rather like this album and the other two I mentioned.

Why sorry? Sorry that Joni made a sub-standard album.
Also sorry that people would prefer "DJRD" and "Mingus", which at best have some interesting moments, to her other work. I certainly wouldn't lump "Hejira" in with the other two.
I'm surprised that anyone would seek out experimental "jazzy" albums by a vocalist they don't like!
Still, happy listening

Mindy Smith "Stupid Love"
If you like Acapella, here's track featuring a singer from, Magma, that was played on the Steve Davis show on Monday night...

Don't be sorry, Vladders, because I'm certainly not!
