What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Blechacz' rapidly controversial disc of the polonaises. I love controversial - means it isn't middle of the road

Shellac - 1000 Hurts  will be seeing Mr Albini this evening play a few tunes

This is terrific.

Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys the new Goldfrapp album. This is a tiny bit more percussion and instruments (not much) and her voice is reminiscent of Florence (Welch, of Florence and the Machine). The combination works very well and they have made some lovely melodies.

Archie Shepp, "Attica Blues" - to commemorate last night's stunning gig at The Barbican.

Shepp's new (live) album - bought the CD at the Barbican after last night's gig. Great CD, they really kick serious butt, but no substitute for seeing this mighty ensemble in the flesh:
