What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Sergei Prokofiev's Concerto for Piano No. 2 in G minor, Op. 16:  Andantino-Allegretto 1st movement only
Anna Vinnitskaya (Piano) / Gilbert Varga / Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin
Thanks to Chief Chirpa for saving me - musically that is.  Probably one of my favorite movements - period.  A desert island disc.  After retreating to the quiet of my home without added background soundtrack I am once again transported to a very pleasant place for the best therapy.  This g minor first movement is all I need and the first eleven minutes especially, minute by minute, just builds bit by bit into such a place that it physically makes it nearly impossible to keep my composure.  Another odd reason I suppose in the live vs. at home debate of where music is or should properly be listened to.  I don't think I could be in public during this performance by Anna yet this would be the ultimate dream - if I were the only one in the audience with a box of tissues.

Anna indeed has lyrical singing hands.
Her Ravel is excellent, too.

Once again, I missed her when she was in town. Hope to see her playing live next year.
I am excited about finding out ( I think EJ started the trend while back ) about her cuz, most of my fave piano players are dead or too old.

Another of my recent Seal acquisitions. Human Being seems slower in tempo to Seal's other albums.

MDS would you mind me asking where I could get these Japanese versions? I have never been happy with the quality of the LZ CDs I have.

Thanks

They are from the "Definitive Collection Box Set" which sounds superb and is packaged with exquisite attention to detail. You can get it from places like Pop Market, Amazon, etc -  make sure you only buy from the most reputable retailers, as there are conterfeits around. It should set you back around £100 - £110.

Hi Steve.  Kevin W drew my attention to the following set:

..which I got from Amazon.  It's a bit expensive but I think worth it, though I see from their website some of the albums can be bought individually.

Sound quality of this CD is a bit hard and flat but Jimi's quality still comes through.

I think  Michael Lee is a better drummer than Jason but I do understand why they chose him for the Zep reunion. Great perfomance on Kashmir!
