What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Any good Pat?

Hi Kevin,

I'm just now onto CD 2.  I was not familiar with the Legion of Mary makeup until getting this album.  Lead vocals are shared with Merl Saunders, whom I am not familiar with, but brings a neat change of pace.  Nice bit of funk and R&B mixed in so far.  I also like how some tunes, like "How Sweet It Is" have a bit of a rougher edge.  Certainly different from the more polished sound of the Jerry Garcia Band in the '80's.

From reading the Amazon comments, apparently there is other Legion of Mary stuff out there, but I don't have any of those tapes.  So for me, this has been worth the purchase.

Peter Kruder Pink Floyd Mix

A live DJ mix of all the tripped out Pink Floyd bits that i love.
I did this for the FM4 Liquid Radio Show sometime in the 90ties and just recently found the DAT of this.

Was thinking about getting this, how is the SQ in the sacd?

I have only listened to the redbook layer and the SQ is great.

Much more enjoyable.

Interesting comment G. I have the original vinyl and 1997 Capitol CD. I've always thought both sound thick and heavy, lacking air and clarity, taking away from the musical enjoyment. Missing the Alan Parson's sound signature.

MDS would you mind me asking where I could get these Japanese versions? I have never been happy with the quality of the LZ CDs I have.

Thanks

Steve

Steve

They are from the "Definitive Collection Box Set" which sounds superb and is packaged with exquisite attention to detail. You can get it from places like Pop Market, Amazon, etc -  make sure you only buy from the most reputable retailers, as there are conterfeits around. It should set you back around £100 - £110.

Gosh, Kevin. You were quick off the mark.

MDS

Many thanks Kevin and MDS, I'll have a hunt around on the sites you recommended. From what you are saying the box set sounds like a worthwhile addition and improvement to previous material. I wonder why and how it came down to the Japanese to produce the best sounding versions?

That's pretty much how I'd define it too but improved somewhat through SN2:HCDR.  Not one that gets much play here but I may have another 'critical' listen today to see if I'm not imagining it.
