With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

According to the internet discography, Haitink recorded 3 sets of Beethoven Cycle.

This is his first effort with the London Philharmonic in the 70s. (1975)

He's got the scale of the score right with some beautiful harmonics, but this is a pretty dull 9th I have heard so far. I think His later style is keeping what's good here but offering much more dynamic contrasts and expressiveness.

+1. This is a great recorded/engineered/mastered/performed LP. The sound was done at the pinnacle of analog recording when digital was about to supplant .  FWIW, in another post I just suggested to Debs she listen to "Telegraph Road" as a gage to assess SQ of her new remastered DS vinyl set.
