What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Still looking for a mint UK original pressing. Is it good?

Yes it's good, but sadly not mint. Looks original pre-barcode AMLH64906

Bought it a couple of days ago at a Town Centre Market stall [bagain bucket] for £2.

Lots of minor surface marks and scuffs, some noticable surface noise on lead-in & start of first track but gets better after a minute or so, and slight surface noise between tracks but easily hiden by musical sound with nice SQ.

Enjoyed my first listen very much, think it may sound better with a couple more plays - i find sometimes they need a few plays after a good tlc RCM scrub to take away 2 decades of neglect.

At the same time i also bought a copy of this-

double vinyl cleaned up well to ex+ condition, outer cover really tatty.

no idea what it's like yet,

but know it'll need to be played loud so i'll wait til tomorrow afternoon

Good luck with your hunt for a mint night and day : )

Bouncy, bubbly and classy Karl Böhm's Beethoven 9th.

Unusual US pressing remastered by Sterling Sound in NY. I haven't heard the original pressing but they did a pretty good job. Big and spacious American sound unusual for a 70s DG vinyl.

Deb,

Thanks for the heads up. I have several US copies and they have applied severe EQ it seems so I wonder about the UK pressing usually more natural.

2£ bet I can take but from across the pond, taking a chance on the UK pop records is a bit dear.

I hope your record does not have a groove damage in which case no amount of cleaning will fix.

My favrite Joe Jackson live album is this but looks like it's only available in CD.
