What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

John Mayer "Paradise Valley"

Christmas (Weihnachts) 1950's German style.  I look forward to listening to these every year.  Very reminiscent of a time long past and prior to the pop world getting hold of Christmas.  Too many performers and pieces to list but a cross section of many houselold names at that time such as:

Walcha, Fischer-Dieskau, Janowitz, Prey, Seefried, Stader, Streich, Wunderlich, Gaebel, Lehmann, Neumeyer, Richter, Rotschuh, Wenzinger, Demus, Krebs, Trapp Family Singers etc. etc.

Top of the list are the few short moments of just ringing church bells.  I could listen to this all day.  A sample of a more informal "Russian" style selection of a few carols by the Don Kosaken Chor Serge Jaroff and the highlight for me is the bass heard in Stille Nacht.  A voice like this seems unheard of today.

For most, by todays standards, this would probably underwhelm to the extreme but for me there are many gems and Christmas carols here that are very special and tug at my heart for nostalgic reasons.

A cd copy of some ' North African' style music that I know little of except to say her ladyship brought it from her belly dancing class. It's very good and the good news is there is no demonstration of the art taking place.
