What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Another interesting find as this led me to her first recording of the Chopin Preludes which sounded very good to me and I think I'll start there.

Are you also going to check out Vadym Kholodenko and Sean Chen?  I think I will be compelled to with Kholodenko doing Liszt's Transcendental Etudes and Chen doing some Brahms, Beethoven and Bartok Etudes.  I love those 3 etudes.

Herbert Schuch (piano)

Schumann: Kreisleriana op. 16
Ravel: Miroirs

Herbert Schuch's debut album back in 2004/2005.  Another competition winner that I think has all the right stuff.  In the year this recording was made he won the Casagrande Competition in Italy, the London International Piano Competition, and the International Beethoven Competition in Vienna.

...les sons et les parfums:  Javier Perianes (piano)

Frédéric Chopin:

Berceuse op. 57; Etüde Nr. 13; Ballade Nr. 4; Walzer Nr. 3; Nocturne Nr. 5; Prelude Nr. 1; Barcarolle op. 60

Claude Debussy:

Clair de lune; Pour les arpeges composes; Les sons et les parfums tourent dans l'air du soir; La plus que lente; Sanseuses de Delphes; La terrasse des audiences du clair de lune; L'Isle joyeuse

A wonderful concept disc paying homage to the importance and influence of Chopin to those composers who came after.  In this case, in particular, it is Claude Debussy

OK I think I'll join the PT trend with Stars Die - the Delerium Years (once The Duke has finished the Far East Suite).
