What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Alex Cornish "Until The Traffic Stops"

Discovered this artist when someone here on this forum mentioned Alex as the very good opening act at a concert they had attended.  Singer songwriter/pop music that I enjoy greatly.  I now have all three albums by him and enjoy them all.

After a six week wait Rise Above Records finally posted Diagonal SecondMecahnaism  to me its a fluid jazz tinged prog rock album.  I am amazed it took them 6 weeks to post it tome ,it wuld have been quicker for me to have walked the 2 miles to thier offices and collected in person.

Benjamin Gibbard "Former Lives"

solo effort from singer/leader of Death Cab For Cutie. Should give you a pretty good idea what to expect - I like it (them).

Perahia's Preludes.
They might be on a cooler side and heavier pieces might not have enough weight but this is a well balanced lively set from the begining to the end.

Chords, do you have their Ginastera disc? One of the best piano recordings that I know of.

Taken By Trees "Other Worlds"

I believe Chief Chirpa was the first person to recommend Taken By Trees on this thread.  Whereas the previous release "East Of Eden" mixed the Swedish pop of Victoria Bergsman with the sounds and rhythms of Pakistan, on the new release "Other Worlds", Ms Bergsman adds the sounds of the Hawaiian Islands to her music.  First listen.

Martha's Chopin Preludes are most emotionally charged with a strong attitude and POV.
She won't let me wonder around through the entire collection.

Interestingly enough Marths's the most strong-willed and muscular Preludes over male pianists but never gets annoying.
