What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.IX)

With 2013 upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.
Anyway, links:

A stonking EP from the head of wood preserver.
Very good Purcell record from 1996. - re-issued.
And Chagall on AliaVox - quite occasionally.
A bit of Mr Ferry on Valentines Night works for me

I've been thinking of getting this Graham - good quality?
Hi Kevin,
Bit of a 'curate's egg' this, good in parts. The music is fantastic as you know, however the SQ is a bit strange. Its on the Doxy label, which is Italian I understand and I have some read some rather uncomplimentary reviews of other albums on this label. Usual stuff digital sounding, poor pressing etc. My album does not sound too digital, and it is nice and warm sounding, but it has a strange 'bass bump' on some of the tracks, but not all? Which spoils the mood somewhat. It comes with a CD which also has the same effect, which overall makes it difficult for me to recommend it whole heartedly, but Etta' voice is so good I am inclined to forgive the pressing faults. I think it is a case of you pay's your money and you take's your choice. However, wish I could find an original copy, so guess it will have to do for the time being, better than nothing!
Regards Graham. P.S. You still up to meet in March.
Kevin/Graham,
I think you'll find the Speakers Corner reissue better quality. It's about £44 on Amazon but on Pure Pleasure Records it's about £25. Pure Pleasure's own releases are well worth looking at. They're reissued full analogue. I have a few and they're very good. Here is the link to the Etta James LP on their web site;

We are in London from Friday 8th March.Going to a gig on the Friday Night to see Emily Baker & the Red Clay Halo at the Hoxton Hall. Where I hope to meet up with forum member Denis A: According to Denis it looks like the gig is sold out. But if you are up for it it would be good to maybe meet on the Sat 9th afternoon at Rough Trade East. I think my email is shown in my profile drop me message.

Just wonderful.
Yep it is a superb album. If you like that try her Pigg River Symphony which is more country roots feel and her self titled discs.

Hi Kevin,
I have made some enquiries about the Emily Barker gig for you. If you fancy chancing your arm at a return ticket, send me a mail (see profile) and I'll pass on the helpful advice from the Hoxton Hall itself. BTW, I couldn't find Graham's email in his profile.
