Hello Adrian,
That's reminded me to give the venerable old classic another spin. The glorious melody of 'Mad Man Moon' periodically runs through my brain. I have my original gatefold vinyl copy and like you, have been through a few CD copies. My fave (best sounding) is an early 'Blue Face' copy on Virgin - CDSCD 4001.
I don't have it but imagine that the early Jap BT version is good. Most of the later remasters are pants. Situation normal!
Good listening and happy new year.
John.

Hi John, Happy New Year to you too.
I think the 4001(which is my First UK CD Release) and the Jap Black Triangle may be the same.
It is the Barry Diament, a US remastering, that is my go to copy. It really does sound fabulous. Not too expensive when you can find one and worth tracking down.
The 2009 remaster is beyond dreadful. It is not so much the remastering but the fact that they remixed it also so as to make it unlistenable.
Cheers
I own 2 copies of Nightfly, both vinyl, identical. Second one is a spare.

Only ever one - why would a person want more?
Sometimes a better remastering comes along, and if I get the chance to listen to it, then I'll get the new one and give the old one to Oxfam ...

One of the disadvantages of buying music downloads (not being able to fill them in a carrier bag to leave in a charity shop doorway)
I have only two copies of my favourite album, but I wish Music on Vinyl or another high quality vinyl label would release a version and I'll be first in the queue.
Only One original Copy of Goodbye Cream which I've owned since its release. It was ,incidentally, the first LP I bought and I still get overwhelmed by 'Sitting On Top Of The World' my favouite track ever. Don't know why I never got it on Cd.
I have six copies of The Yes Album, and I wouldn't even go so far as to say it's my favourire album.
Original UK vinyl release.
Japanese vinyl import.
Original UK CD release.
Japanese HDCD limited edition.
Japanese SHM-CD.
MFSL CD.
I must get around to selling five of them.
Great thread!
I have multiple copies of very many albums - mostly of artists I collect.
Just at random - I seem to have 14 versions of DSOTM (a very long way from being my favourite album)
1. 1970s US Capitol vinyl
2. 1970s Japanese Toshiba-EMI Pro-Use vinyl
3. 1970s MFSL vinyl
4. 1997 EMI 100 vinyl
5. 1997 vinyl (part of 30th anniversary box set)
6. 2003 UK vinyl
7. 2011 UK vinyl
8. 1980s MFSL gold CD
9. 1992 CD (part of that rubbish 1992 Shine On box set)
10. 1993 20th anniversary box set CD
11. 2003 hybrid SACD/CD
12. 2007vinyl replica CD (part of the Oh By The Way box)
13. 2011 Immersion CD box set

Do you have the live set Kevin? Sounds better than any of the studio releases to me.
The only album I have multiple copies of is 'Exile on Main Street' mainly in an attempt to find a half decent sounding one. The best is an original 'nice price' Dutch release with red CD spine......and tape drop out on 'Sweet Virginia' unfortunately.
The 24 bit tracks from GRRR! Sound hopeful for a better Hi-Res release. G

I have it on the Immersion box set (1974) and on Pulse (1994). I also have it a gazillion times on bootleg (1972 - 75 and 1994). I love the '74 version.

Kevin,
Which pressing sounds the best?
1. No, wait 2. I have "In Rainbows" on Vinyl and CD. I guess the rip counts as a copy so 3. But wait, the backup is another copy, so 4. Oh wait, it is on at least 2 iPods as well, so 6+. And I have the "Live in The Basement" videos (backed up as well) so 8+. Adds up doesn't it?

I have a CBS stereo vinyl BPG 62066 - only one. I am sure I will wear it out. I bought it in the eighties.

Kevin,
Which pressing sounds the best?
Hi Kuma
The UK 2011 or or the 1970s Japanese sound best IMO.
Some buffs say the UK first press from 1973 (the one that goes for £300 upwards on auction sites) is the best of all but I've not heard it.
I've never heard the ultra-rare, ultra-expensive Mobile Fidelity UHQR pressing either. Anyone had any experience of this?
I have the following Wish You Were Heres:
- UK 1975 Harvest first vinyl pressing
- US 1980s Columbia (diff cover to UK)
- 1980 US Columbia Master Sound Half Speed Mastered pressing
- 1970s UK Harvest Quadrophonic pressing
- 1980s CBS/Sony Japanese pressing
- 1970s German pressing
- 2011 UK vinyl pressing
- 2007 UK vinyl pressing (part of 30th Anniversary box set)
- 1999 25th Anniversary vinyl replica CD
- 1993 CBS Mastersound US gold CD
- Immersion box set (UK 2011 - CD, DVD and Blu-Ray with lots of diff mixes in diff resolutions)
- UK 2011 master CD (part of Discovery box set)
- 1992 UK CD (part of crap Shine On box)
- 2007 UK vinyl replica CD (part of the Oh By The Way box set)
- 2012 SACD
I think that's probably enough to be going on with!

The mono original LP is unique and sounds fresh, the 2006 Sony Japan masterings are my fav digital and the Music On Vinyl is a great effort, but all of the above are nice versions - can't go wrong with any (keeping in mind that Sony's Mark Wilder tape speed correction on the side 1. tracks was first issued in 1992 - on CD)
Japanese prints of almost all the Beatles official output in vinyl, first CD releases and latest mono remasters.
Vinyl, first CD issue and latest CD/DVD-A release of The Nightfly (one of my favorite albums ever).
Unexpectedly, two identical copies of Berlioz's Les nuits d'etèe with Frederica Von Stade, in vinyl. I am going to give one to a friend.
I have six copies of The Yes Album, and I wouldn't even go so far as to say it's my favourire album.

Is that 'Why do you have 6 copies? Because YIND is so good', or 'Why do you have to sell 5 of them? Because YIND is so bad'??
I have 7 copies of 'Close to the Edge' and scarcely ever listen to it now. But it's nice to know it's there just in case I get washed up on some desert island one day.
