NEW NAIM PRODUCT LAUNCH

Posted by: Cbr600 on 04 January 2013

Just seen on Facebook that Naim have posted an article about new hifi show in Vegas and the launch of a new product.

Not another new item, I hear you say !

Any ideas what it might be ?

NAP1000 sounds cheap. Maybe NAP600 or 800 would fit the bill. Tony

Got to be the floating SNAXO for Naim legacy speakers. Definitely!!

So when can I audition the new Reference DAC?

552 with digital inputs would be nice if no Reference DAC is forthcoming .... not interested in Naim streaming, but if the 552 XS had a streaming, but could be used as a DAC pre then that would be fine. Two points though ... could it please have a PSU that doesn't hum and could it have an easy way to do software updates (i.e. no Windows or any other computer required).

We need to find out, the suspense is killing us!

I have a cunning plan, kidnap Paul Stephenson and subject him to torture until he spills the beans.

I may need some help with the first part, I'm close to Salisbury and so are some of the other forum members, he may put up resistance when we pounce so going in mob handed may be required.  I guess we look for the Bentley in the car park and take him when he leaves the factory.

The second part is easy, I have a friend with an all Cyrus system with some nice revealing Proacs, I reckon with some plinkly plonky music (or some Dire Straits) we can break him within the hour and have the Naim product road-map for the next 2 years.

Any volunteers?

This is hilarious! I was sitting at my desk at work when I read this. Couldn't help breaking into a ridiculous laugh, which, in turn shocked my colleagues (they are fragile).

I have mixed feelings on what Naim have in store tomorrow.
A reference product is going to give me a head ache and bring that subdued (for now) devil back on my shoulder!

A few dealers that I spoke with said they've not heard of any new inegrateds under development. Let's see if I believe them in the future. :-)

"NAIM and The Sound Organisation are pulling out all the stops at CES 2013. Stop by room 20-233 and listen to the new OVATOR 800 active loudspeakers, the award winning NDS reference network player, 555PS DR, NAC552 reference preamp and three NAP500's!"

There goes the Statement NAP... But a reference streaming pre, if they are pushing the NDS?

Hmmm....

Posted on: 08 January 2013 by Shanks

My prediction for 2013 product launches

Today - Ovator 200, with the new BMR's in the 800

Soon - BMR upgrades for Ovator 600

2nd/3rd Qtr - Reference DAC (This IMHO, is the biggest missing piece of the puzzle in the reference series)

Don't think a Reference streamer will come out until 2014 at the earliest.

The whole point of a reference series in a way, is that it doesn't become obsolete for sometime atleast.

Speaking of reference 500's, does anyone think the NAP 500/NAC 552 are going to be replaced this year? In a sense, the 2012 DR upgrade for the 552 PS would suggest not.

However, this could just be akin to a car manufacturer dragging on the last phase of a high end car with an upgrade/tweak (albeit significant ones).

If that is the case, then the development surely must be going on for years now.

And noone knows about it???

Guess we'll all have to wait an see though.

A few people seem to think this, I've heard it elsewhere as well.

How would the power work though - would it need a supercap or an XPS/555PS  -or both?

The DAC-V1 is a digital / analog converter compact with volume control. Includes a USB input asynchronously, five digital inputs S / PDIF, analog output (fixed or variable), a digital volume control and a front socket for headphones. Connected to a computer via USB, the DAC-V1 is integrated with the operating system to provide audio playback with performance not defined by the computer hardware, but simply the quality of the audio file. And with the characteristics of the DAC-V1, this quality can be incredibly high, reaching up to 24 bits and 384 kHz. Our DAC-V1, your computer is no longer just a convenient audio source, but becomes a "hub" musical high-end high resolution.

Designed to accompany the DAC-V1, here is our new compact amplifier NAP 100. In size, the NAP 100 shares the compactness of its partners (only 20 cm in width), but is a central musical important and dynamic, able to drive a wide range of high quality loudspeakers. If, however, always listen with headphones, the IPC-V1 includes a headphone amplifier single-ended class A and of great quality. This means that you can plug headphones directly into the front panel without the need to also have an amplifier and speakers if you wish.

While the USB input of asynchronous DAC-V1 is able to bring computers into the realm of hi-end, the S / PDIF inputs ensure that other digital audio sources can benefit from the technology Naim DAC. The DAC-V1 immediately improve the sound of digital devices such as CD players, music streamer, game consoles, televisions, or readers hard drives as UnitiServe of Naim. Associated, for example, the DAC-V1 with a NAP 100 and a music server with hard disk UnitiServe and you have a compact sound system and high-end able to benefit from any new source of music and any new format. To further demonstrate the flexibility of the DAC-V1 is at ease in the traditional hi-fi. Connect the DAC-V1 input of an amplifier and analog and digital audio sources that the computer can be inserted into a conventional audio system with quality sound phenomenal.

Google translation of the product sheet :

Digital music

For many music lovers, the computer has become an important source audio. Streaming music, music
downloaded or ripped CDs are stored on the computer to be played with iTunes, Windows Media Player or
one of the many specific audio applications. Computers, however, are not optimized for the sound quality and for only would not make justice to the music. So here come the our new products: the DAC-V1 and the NAP 100. The DAC-V1 is a digital / analog converter compact with volume control. Includes a USB port asynchronous five digital inputs S / PDIF, analog output (fixed or variable), a digital volume control and a power front for headphones. Connected to a computer via USB, the DAC-V1 is integrated with the operating system to provide a copy audio performance not defined by the computer hardware, but simply the quality of the audio file. And with the characteristics of the DAC-V1, this quality can be incredibly high, reaching up to 24 bits and 384 kHz. With the Our DAC-V1, your computer is no longer just a convenient audio source, but becomes a "hub" musical high-end high resolution.

Powerful but flexible
Designed to accompany the DAC-V1, here is our new compact amplifier NAP 100. In size, the NAP
100 shares the compactness of its partner (only 20 cm wide), but it is a central and important musical dynamics, capable of driving a wide range of high quality loudspeakers. If, however, always listen with headphones, the IPC-V1 includes a headphone amplifier single-ended class A and of great quality. This means you can connect headphones directly on the front panel, without the need to also have an amplifier and speaker, if desired. While the USB input of asynchronous DAC-V1 is able to bring the computer into the realm of quality hi-end, the inputs S / PDIF ensure that other digital audio sources can benefit from the technology Naim DAC. The DAC-V1 immediately improve the sound of digital devices such as CD players, music streamer, game consoles, televisions players or hard drive as the UnitiServe of Naim. Associated, for example, the DAC-V1 with a NAP 100 and a music server UnitiServe hard disk and you have a compact sound system and high-end able to benefit from any new source music and any new format. To further demonstrate the flexibility of the DAC-V1 is at ease in traditional hi-fi. Connect the DAC-V1 input of an analog amplifier and both the digital audio sources that the computer can be placed in a traditional audio system, with a phenomenal sound quality.

Digital audio is not just data, 0 and 1, is not just to make sure that every sampling value is accurately converted into a corresponding output voltage. Vital for the achievement of higher fidelity is to ensure
that each sample is reproduced with a precise time interval compared to those around him. If that interval of time varies, an effect known as jitter, the waveform output will be distorted. To avoid this, the master clock that controls the process should ideally be positioned close to the circuitry the digital / analog converter, not far away. The USB mode allows asynchronous all this because it allows data to be "extracted" from the source when required, while in other modes the data is "pushed" in the interface under the control internal clock of the computer, which is much lower quality and distant.

The NAP 100 is the classic expression of the engineering tradition of the amplifiers Naim. With 50 watts per channel into 8 Ω and 100 watts at 4 Ω, the NAP 100 is a dual-mono amplifier based on the circuit topology of our reader compact reference, the SuperUniti. Includes a toroidal transformer and amplifier circuits totally discreet. The size of his cabinet and extruded are compact, but its performance is extraordinary, dynamic and full of rhythm and clarity typical of the brand Naim.

Interesting power figures on the NAP100 though. The power figures appear to be per channel, rather than the more normal way, for Naim, of the product number being the combined output into 4 ohm.

Also, the exact doubling form 50w/8ohm to 100w/4ohm, would these be based on the NaimNet NNP-02 amp (which ISTR, BCBW, is based on Class D)?

Whereas a NAP200 is 70wpc/8ohm / 100wpc/4ohm

Be interesting to see the full spec for it.

John

Not sure what you mean, fixed whee. 70 wpc is watts per channel, no?

Interested to know where the pre section of the dac-pre sits within the current pre hierarchy. Hoping 282 level plus.

Posted on: 08 January 2013 by MangoMonkey

depends on pricing. :-)
